Luck & Logic

I game I've found that my "peeps", aka residents, seem to look forward to is one that is a bit of luck mixed with logic. I think what also makes it fun is the anticipation of not only the "Grand Prize", but the "Booby Prize" as well. That helps make those who have the bad luck happier. If you're not familiar with what a "Booby Prize" is, it's the prize given to whomever loses. So the game: Red/Black High/Low. Familiar with that? Well if you're not good for you, you're not a heathen. Those of us who are familiar with the game probably played it at a house party around a table while taking drinks instead of points.
Yes, I took a college party drinking game and made it into something my "peeps" get excited about. Not the first time a drinking game turned sober game has been a hit. "Water Pong" was a fun repurposing of "Beer Pong". Great for hand eye coordination, but had me chasing ping pong balls for a hour. I'm working out that issue....and again I'm digressing....
So if you'd like to know how to play check out my video here. But long story short: It's a game played with cards, you flip one over from the deck and try to guess what the next card will be. Your options of what to say are simple: Red, Black, High, Low or Same. Believe me, "same" happens more than you expect. In fact, you can choose to make "Same" a good thing in some way, I'd even suggest it. Maybe by taking it out as an option to "call" and if it happens, reward it in some way. We give out coupons to our resident run "store". But then again, it happens a lot more than you expect, so be ready to hand out a couple prizes for that. You could also make it a "wild card" situation where they get a pass. Another thing to consider if you'll play the Ace as high or low. It honestly makes more sense to play it low, as a "1", but I just associate Ace as being high so that's how I play it. Finally, the best part about this game is that I got comically large playing cards, but it's just sensible because an audience can see them better. I have a table easel set up on a rolling cart with a whiteboard on it. I use the whiteboard to not only keep score, but to prop the cards on as we go. I don't shuffle in between each player, I just draw randomly and place discards in the deck randomly. Whew! That should be it! Comment with anything I may of missed! Have fun!
